Founded in 2015, the SEAT Center is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering underrepresented young adults, primarily aged 16–24, through transformative educational and workforce development programs. Their mission is to provide meaningful work opportunities and create a sense of purpose and hope within the community.
SEAT Center offers a range of programs, including:
YouthBuild Schenectady: A program that combines education, job training, and leadership development.
Build Up Programs: Specialized training in Culinary Arts, HVAC, and Film.
FUTURES: Focused on career readiness and life skills.
In addition to these programs, SEAT Center operates social enterprises such as The Culinary Lab, SEAT for Hire, and SEAT Works, providing real-world job experiences to participants. Comprehensive support services, including case management, wellness counseling, and life skills training, are integral to their holistic approach.
The organization has demonstrated significant impact, with high job and/or college placement rates and a substantial number of students obtaining industry-recognized credentials. SEAT Center is a National Direct AmeriCorps sub-grantee and receives primary funding from the U.S. Department of Labor for programs like YouthBuild Schenectady.
