Google has announced that going HTTPS — adding an SSL Certificate on your site — will give you a ranking boost. In many cases, this will determine if they display you on the first page of the search results or not. What is an SSL Certificate? SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organization’s details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser. This activates the green lock in your web browser letting visitors know that your site is safe, which can lead to higher conversions and sales.
